Somonauk Business Organization Meeting Minutes
April 2, 2008
I. Call to order
President Bob Honkala called to order the regular board meeting of the Somonauk Business Organization at 7:05 A.M. on April 2, 2008 at the Country Kitchen Restaurant.
II. Roll call
Bob Honkala conducted a roll call. The following persons were present: President Bob Honkala (Bud’s Citgo), Vice President Yong Shim (Miller’s Foods), Director Stacy Shim (Miller’s Foods), Director Pam Aloisio (Design Color Studio), Director Adam Arriaga (Country Kitchen), Bob Guehler (Lake Reality), Eric Honkala (Dekalb Street Floral), Debby Honkala (Dekalb Street Floral), Cori Mander (Citizen’s First National Bank), Tom Rarden (Tri County Couriers), Amber Fay (Acorn Cabinetry), Jon Walker (LPL Financial), Craig Johnson (Somonauk Insurance Office).
III. Approval of minutes from last meeting
Adam Arriaga motioned to accept the minutes as emailed and mailed from the last regular board meeting. Seconded by Yong Shim. Motion Carried.
IV. Treasurers Report
Bob Honkala reported the Treasurer’s report was not available and a new Treasurer should be found and appointed immediately.
V. Approval of New Members
There are no new members of the Somonauk Business Organization to approve.
VI. Open issues
a.) Committee Chairman Adam Arriaga presented the Wrigley Field baseball trip committee’s information. It was decided that the price of the ticket and bus transportation would be $70.00. The bus trip will take place on June 25, 2008. Green River Lines Bus Company has been contracted and paid to provide transportation services for the event. The buses will leave at approximately 4:30 pm from a location yet to be determined. Craig Johnson suggested the bank parking lot and the Somonauk High School parking lot. A letter will be sent to the school. Craig Johnson reported that there will be beer sold at $2.00 and pop sold at $1.00 on the bus. Pam Aloisio suggested bottled water be added along with the pop and beer. Amber Fay was designated by the committee to make flyers to put up at area businesses. Craig Johnson suggested one central location for the tickets to be sold. Somonauk Insurance Office will be the holder of the tickets and will start selling them immediately. There are 26 tickets out of the 100 purchased already spoken for. Craig Johnson motioned to pay for liquor liability insurance at the price of $200.00. Seconded by Stacy Shim. Motion Carried.
b.) Committee Chairman Bob Honkala presented the “Linked” newsletter committee’s information. He stated that the Pound Ridge Business Association was sending a CD that had a copy of their newsletter layout on it. No further will be done until the CD arrives in the mail.
c.) Bob Honkala reported on the Somonauk Summer Fest. He presented the idea of the petting zoo, pony rides, and possibly a money machine and 50/50 raffle to Somonauk Village Board Trustee Scott Merrill. The idea was not what Merrill had expected and hoped the SBO would be a major financial contributor. It was told to Scott Merrill that the SBO should not be counted on as a major financial contributor. Craig Johnson motioned that the Somonauk Business Organization should continue with is original idea of a petting zoo and pony rides with the possibility of a raffle and money machine for the Somonauk Summer Fest. Seconded by Eric Honkala. Motion carried.
VII. New Business
Roll Call Addition:
Ken Poris (Ken Poris P.C. Law Office) enters meeting at 7:35 am
A.) Yong Shim Motioned to appoint Craig Johnson as the new Somonauk Business Organization Treasurer. Seconded by Eric Honkala. Motioned Carried with much applause.
B.) Bob Honkala reported that the Kelly Miller Circus had been contacted to hold their circus in Somonauk. A location would be needed that is approximately 300’ x 300’, drinking water will be needed, trash removal would be needed and a contracting fee of $290.00 would be paid to the circus. Ken Poris tabled a vote until potential dates of the show were obtained from Kelly Miller Circus Co.
C.) Bob Honkala and Yong Shim reported that they will be sending out a information request to all members. The information will seek information about members dumpsters and their dumpster services. The flyer will seek business that would use “power in numbers” to bid out dumpster services to save businesses money. The flyer will be mailed this week.
D.) Bob Honkala reported that the Ice Sculptor that performed the show for the 2007 Holiday Fest lost the check that he was given for his service rendered. Treasurer Craig Johnson will investigate into the status of the check. If it is found that the check was never cashed, a new check will be written to World Ice Sculptors in the full amount minus the cost of stop payment on the lost check.
E.) Bob Honkala reported that the Leland Farmers grain elevator was seeking variances for a new building and grain bins. He also reported that the Country Kitchen was being held up on their interior drywall improvements. A copy of the Somonauk United Development Ordinance book is available for review to any member at Ken Poris’ office.
F.) Adam Arriaga reported that all the new members had received their SBO plaques.
G.) Bob Honkala reported that there have been updates performed on the website (www.somonaukcommerce.org) and any changes or further information should be sent to Amber Fay via email. Her address is amber@acorncabinetryinc.com.
VIII. Other Business
A.) Cori Mander motioned to add Treasurer as a signer for the SBO checking account. Ken Poris Seconded. Motion Carried.
B.) Ken Poris reported that former LaSalle County board member Alan Erberderis gave him an article from a newspaper that stated that the Village of Somonauk’s board was looking to approve an ordnance that would require businesses to obtain vehicle stickers for their vehicle even if that business owner lived outside the Village limits. Ken Poris will turn the article over to Bob Honkala and a letter will be sent to the Village if necessary.
IX. Adjournment
Adam Arriaga motioned to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Yong Shim. Meeting adjourned at 8:00 A.M.
