Kathy Kohler, secretary for the Village of Somonauk spoke to the organization regarding Village President Kevin Brockman’s wishes to get individuals and businesses in organizing a community function (music in the park, night time movies) The next community organizational meeting will be decided at letter date.
President Wayne asked Merlin Milligan is all the trophy dollars had been collected from the car show. Merlin will speak to Jim Gurlick.
President Wayne stated that only one response was received by John regarding the booklet. Merlin stated that the cost was still an issue. There is interest in doing a booklet but the cost needs to be nailed down.
Merlin Milligan gave a brief synopsis of what Kevin Zollars spoke about regarding the Earlville car show. We need to know if there is any interest in doing a car show or cruise night and a commitment from businesses.
Merlin Milligan stated that the Village is still looking at candidates for the Planning and Zoning committee.
The Village is looking at raising the water rates to fund the new water tower.
We will be going from a 100,000 gallon tower to a 600,000 gallon tower.
The village does not have enough funds set aside to fund this improvement.
Questions were asked as to the need for a new tower, and if a water rate increase would be the best way to fund this project.
On average a 100.00 water bill for 3 months would increase to 200.00 for two months and that did not include the rate increase for sewer.
Helen Goddard will send out a post card reminding everyone of the upcoming meeting on April 12th at 7:30 pm.
President Wayne asked when we could see addendums added to the comprehensive plan. Merlin had no answer at this time.
The Somonauk Growth and Development Task Force meeting hold on Monday, March 27th was discussed. President Wayne stated that he would welcome any changes that would further educate our children, but that the meeting talked mostly about a community center, weight rooms and a pool. President Wayne state that being a member on the Library Board the Library was not interested in being affiliated with the schools proposals as they are a different taxing body and had different interests.
The Somonauk Business Organization is interested in this issue by tax dollars and the shift of the hub of Somonauk being taken from the downtown area to the school site.
President Wayne ended the meeting with these words. “The Comprehensive Plan is not dead” we will discuss at the next meeting.
Meeting adjourned at 5:27 pm
